Mera & Island Peak Climbing with Amphu Labsta Pass

Mera Peak

Short info:
Located at the head of the quiet and remote Hinku valley, an area of the Mount Everest region rarely frequented by trekkers or visitors, Mera Peak (6,460m) is the highest trekking peak in Nepal.

Island Peak Climbing

Overview:Lying on the edge of the famous Khumbu Region, where it overlooks many of the world's highest summits, including Mount Everest; Mera Peak is Nepal’s highest trekking peak. Standing over 6,460 m, Mera Peak offers an introductory long high altitude climb to the summit. This superb trek takes us away from the more frequented trails leading to Everest Base Camp. The ascent of the peak is technically straightforward, however, the heavy snow and the maze of crevasses can make the way longer to the summit. This trip is ideal for those with moderate mountaineering experience and a good level of fitness. The trek starts after landing in Lukla from where we descend into the almost uninhabited Hinku Valley by crossing over the Zatra La pass. We follow the Inkhu River right up to the Mera Peak Base Camp which is at the foot of North face of Mera. The route to high camp goes via Mera La pass. Only the last 30 or 40 meters to the summit require the use of fixed lines. From the summit you get magnificent views of the over-8000-meter-mountains including Mt. Everest, Mt. Lhotse, Mt. Cho Oyu, Mt. Makalu, Mt. Kanchenjunga, and several others.

Pancha Pokhari

Descending from the summit of Mera, the route turns east at the Mera La, into the Upper Hongu Valley. As we follow the valley northward, the rock face of Chamlang towers to the east and Lhotse and Everest are visible directly in front of us. After a night at the sacred Panch Pokhari lakes, we make the tough crossing of the technical Amphu Labsta Pass which is basically the low point on the ridge between the Hinku and Imja Valleys. We then enter into the Khumbu valley where our trek ends.
