Pharchamo Peak

Pharchamo Peak

Situated at Rolwaling Himalayan range in Rolwaling region of Nepal,Pharchamo Peak (6,187m) is a straightforward snow peak with a well defined north by northwest ridge rising from the relatively flat crevassed glacier astride the Tashi Lapcha pass. To the west of the ridge the face forms a uniform snow slope broken by crevasses and small sera rising from the rocky lower buttresses above the Drolambau Glacier. Pharchamo lies to the south of Tashi Lapcha pass which connects the Rolwaling Valley with Thame and the Khumbu Valley.
With a scenic drive on the Kathmandu-Lhasa highway to the ancient trading town of Dolakha, the route to the peak leads through Rolwaling region which has remained untouched by western civilization and groups of trekkers are not often seen, even in the peak trekking seasons. With outstanding sceneries, the route leads along beautiful river valleys, past beautiful Sherpa and Tamang villages before emerging in high alpine landscapes. Main attraction of Pharchamo Peak are panoramic views of Himalayan peaks like Langtang, Everest, Gaurishankar, Dorje Lakpa, Choba Bhamre, Menlungtse Mt. Tashi Lapcha etc. After the completion of the climbing to the summit, we cross the Tashi Lapcha pass and enter into the Khumbu Valley from where our journey ends with a flight back to Kathmandu from Lukla.

Tharpu Chuli Peak Climbing

Tharpu Chuli

Tharpu Chuli (5,663m) is located above the Annapurna Valley directly opposite one of the most recognisable peaks in the world; Machhapuchhre. Also referred to as ‘Tent Peak’ due to its shape, the mountain lies in the south of Annapurna Base Camp. The normal route to climb Tharpu Chuli follows the North-West Ridge to the summit. The summit offers magnificent panoramic views of majestic snow-capped mountains of the Annapurna region including Machhapuchhre, Annapurna I, II, III and IV, Gangapurna, Baraha Shikhar and Hiunchuli.

Tharpu Chuli offers the best short trekking peak climbing experience in the Annapurna region. It is technically easy but equally challenging, an excellent start to those who are intending to step up from trekking to amateur mountaineering or equally for trekkers wishing to add an extra challenge to the most popular Annapurna Base Camp trek.

For a better acclimatization, we trek through several different ethnic settlements, terraced farmlands, cascading waterfalls, and pine and rhododendron forests.  From Poon Hill, you can enjoy the famous sunrise views of the Annapurna Valley and of Dhaulagiri. Once at Annapurna Base Camp, you spend time acclimatizing further before following the glacial moraine to Tharpu Chuli Base Camp. A further high camp is used at 5,000m. From high camp the route crosses the glacier and climbs a 45° snow slope to attain the North West Ridge. The ridge, which is broad at first, becomes knife-edged for the final 50m to the summit. The views from the top are some of the finest in the Himalaya.
