Upper Dolpa Trek

Shey Phoksundo Lake

The Upper Dolpo Trek to Shey Gompa brings you into a mystical land where centuries old Buddhist and Bonpo traditions are still an important part of life. The legendary hidden land is located in the upper part of Dolpa District in Western Nepal at the edge of the Tibetan Plateau. Part of the region falls under Shey Phoksundo National Park. The park contains the famous Phoksundo Lake (deepest lake in Nepal) and Shey Gompa, both of which are the major tourist attractions. There is no aquatic life in the lake, which helps to make the waters brilliantly clear. Shey Gompa is situated at the base of Crystal Mountain is an important pilgrimage site for TIbetans. Crystal Mountain is visited by hundreds of pilgrims each year, who make a kora (circuit) around the mountain, Dolpo’s own version of Mount Kailash.

Beautiful village

The route is most demanding as we have to cross some 5000+ high passes like Kang La and Shey La which involves long climbs and long descends. As we trek through the heart of Dolpo we are presented with a fascinating insight into the Tibetan way of life and warm welcome of the Bonpos. The hills along the way are sparsely populated and the trails through them peaceful and quite as there is lack of other tourists.

Dho Tarap

Primitive lifestyle, snowy peaks, ancient and isolated villages, rich wildlife, Buddhist monasteries and wonderful lakes makes this trek an extremely varied and special trek.

Annapurna South Expedition

Annapurna South and Hiunchuli

Annapurna is a series of peaks 55 km long with the highest point, Annapurna I, which stands 8091m in altitude, making it the 10th-highest summit in the world, located in a spectacular setup, east of a great gorge cutting through the Himalayas by the Kali Gandaki River, which separates it from the Dhaulagiri massif.

The massive Annapurna ridge includes Annapurna I (8,091m), Annapurna II (7,937m), Annapurna III (7,555m), Annapurna IV (7,525m), Gangapurna (7,455m), Annapurna South (7,219m) and Macchapuchhre (6,993m) which are arranged almost precisely in a circle about 10 miles in diameter with a deep glacier-covered amphitheater at the center. Known as Annapurna Dakshin in the local language, it was first climbed in 1964 by a Japanese expedition via the North Ridge.

Annapurna South Expedition

The itinerary starts with a drive from Pokhara to Suikhet from where the trek starts to Ghandruk: a beautiful Gurung village. As we move higher through the rhododendron woodlands the views of Annapurna and Machhapuchhre are astounding. On reaching Kopra Ridge our campsite is right below Annapurna I. Trail goes up to the sacred lake above Khair and to the Annapurna Base Camp for climbing Annapurna South. The south face base camp is situated at 4,000m and the advance base camp is on west bank of the glacier between Annapurna south and Hiunchuli. The camp 1 is fixed at 5,000m. Camp 2 is fixed at 5,970m and camp 3 is at 6,400m at the junction of the North Ridge and Summit Ridge. It sits on the "Dome" of Annapurna IV and offers us an incredible view of the Summit Ridge. The route turns sharp east and follows the Annapurna crest to the summit of Annapurna IV.
